Total of 207 cards representing complete sets of all four years of Red Man Tobacco. Included are fifty-eight cards with tabs, three variations, and a Red Man coupon redemption catalog. In the following condition composite, the assigned grades are without respect to the missing tab or the neatness of the cut. Condition is 39% Vg-Ex to Ex, 51% Gd to Vg, and 10% lesser (including a couple with slight trimming beyond coupon removal). This collection consists of the following: 1) 1952 Complete Set of 52 (17 with tabs): Keys: #3A Berra (pencil mark on back), 8A Feller (Gd+, with tab), 23A Williams (Vg+), 2N Ashburn (Vg, with tab), 15N Mays (Vg, with tab), 16N Musial (Vg-Ex), and 17N Reese (erased writing on front). 2) 1953 Complete Set of 52 (2 with tabs): Keys: #1A Stengel (Gd+), 3A Berra (Vg+), 5N Campanella (Vg+), 10N Reese (Vg-Ex+), 14N Snider (Gd), and 26N Musial (Gd+). 3) 1954 Complete Set of 50 plus 3 variations (27 with tabs): Keys: #1N Ashburn (Vg+, with tab), 4Aa Kell (Boston, Ex, with tab), 4Ab Kell (Chicago, pen writing on back, otherwise Vg-Ex, with tab), 6Aa Mele (Orioles, Ex), 9Aa Philley (Cleveland, Ex+), 9Ab Philley (Athletics, Vg+), 13N Campanella (Vg+, with tab), 15N Reese (Ex), 16A Ford (Vg+), 16N Snider (Vg), 19Na Slaughter (Vg-Ex), 19Nb Bell (Gd+), 20A Berra (Ex), 24N Burdette (signed, otherwise Vg-Ex+), and 25N Mays (Ex). 4) 1955 Complete Set of 50 (14 with tabs): Keys: Ford (Vg-Ex), Mays (Gd, with tab), Berra (Fr, with tab), Reese (Vg-Ex), and Snider (Gd, with tab). The coupon redemption catalog displays considerable wear to the cover, including detachment at the spine and a missing back corner. The inner pages are in nice condition. Red Man Tobacco cards are far rarer than most 1950s baseball cards. Because of their tabs (which were designed to be cut) and method of issue, they often have condition problems. Many consider them to represent one of the best values of all cards from the era. This is a relatively affordable, yet still very attractive complete set run of these unusual cards. The cards are bright and crisp, and display far better than their technically accurate assigned grades. Total: 208 items (207 cards and one catalog). Reserve $400. Estimate $1,000+.
