Presented is a very attractive pair of three-card salesman-sample advertising panels from the 1953 Bowman Color set, highlighted by Hall of Famers Warren Spahn, Red Schoendienst, and Ralph Kiner. Salesman-sample panels were issued for use exactly as their name suggests: Salesmen were provided these panels in very limited numbers to show and distribute (in person or by mail) as samples to prospective vendors to illustrate what the upcoming series would look like in the hope of promoting sales. Both the front and back of the panels appear just like regular-issue cards. Complete salesman sample panels have always been extremely desirable and quite rare as they were obviously produced in very modest quantities due to their intended purpose of advertising only to vendors. Each of the offered panels is extremely bright and clean. The Spahn/Wight/Schoendienst panel presents as Excellent overall, with light touches of wear at the corners and light, inconsequential, and non-distracting stain arcing over the image of the center card. The Kiner/Joost/Raffensberger panel would grade Near Mint overall if not for a small area of paper loss on the center card. The reverse of each panel is entirely clean. This is a superb and very rare salesman sample pair, which would make outstanding companion pieces to any complete 1953 Bowman Color set or additions to any world-class advertising collection. Total: 2 panels. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
