Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Extremely desirable rookie card of legendary Hall of Famer Willie Mays, one of the most important and famous of all 1950s bubble-gum cards. In addition to being one of the two key cards of the 1951 Bowman set, Mays is part of the scarce high-number series of the set (#253-324). The card displays bright colors, slightly off-register color alignment, light wear to the corners (a bit more to the lower right), and is centered toward the left. There is a light crease across the upper right corner. The reverse is clean, with a light wrinkle and a wax stain, which is often a problem with 1951 Bowmans. The 1951 Bowman Willie Mays rookie has always been a card-collecting icon, especially among postwar cards. This is an attractive example of this classic in an extremely desirable grade, offering an outstanding value compared to many higher-graded examples. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++.
