Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. An outstanding example of this high-demand card of Leroy "Satchel" Paige from the 1949 Bowman series. This rare high-number card has always been one of the key cards of both the set and the era, and naturally tends to be on most collector's 1949 Bowman want lists. It is interesting to note that the back of the card makes mention of his years of "traveling around the Negro Leagues" before being signed by the Indians, and that "his exact age is unknown." This example displays near-perfect centering, with light, even wear to the corners, bold colors, and flawless registration. Clean reverse. A single light surface wrinkle extending from the right edge accounts for the assigned grade. One of the key classics of all postwar baseball-card issues, this is a very attractive VG-EX example of one of only several cards issued of Satchel Paige dating from his playing days. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
