Complete set of forty-four baseball subjects from 1947 W571 "Homogenized" Bond Bread series, highlighted by several Hall of Famers including Joe DiMaggio, Jackie Robinson, and Ted Williams. W571 is a fascinating vintage set which includes many great stars, but has received very little attention. The black-and-white cards (2.5 x 3.5 inches) from this set were issued with rounded corners and blank backs. This set does contain six square cornered cards: Blackwell, Branca, Elliott, Ennis, Kiner, and Tebbetts. There is disagreement about the collectible value of square cornered W571 cards, as the date of production has never been verified. PSA and SGC do not currently authenticate square cornered examples. The condition of the thirty-eight rounded-corner cards is twenty Nr/Mt or better, four Ex-Mt, five Ex, four Vg-Ex, two Vg, and three Pr to Fr. Keys: Berra (Nr/Mt), DiMaggio (centered toward the bottom, otherwise Vg+), Feller (Nr/Mt), Hodges (Nr/Mt), Musial (Vg+), Reese (Nr/Mt+), Rizzuto (Ex), Robinson (Ex), and Williams (centered toward the right, otherwise Nr/Mt). This is a very clean and impressive group of cards, which includes a particularly high concentration of Hall of Famers and one of the most overlooked and significant (due to its year of issue) of all Jackie Robinson cards. Total: 44 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
