Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Extremely attractive mid-grade example of this short-printed "Rare Leaf" rookie card featuring Hall of Famer Larry Doby. The 1949 Leaf Bubble Gum card of Doby is the most popular and significant of all his cards. It is also a genuine rarity, being one of the forty-nine scarce cards in the 1948-1949 Leaf Gum Co. set. The clean, off-white borders of this card frame a virtually flawless image that is centered to the left (approximately 25/75 L/R). Honest corner wear and a single light wrinkle extending from the right border account for the assigned grade. The reverse is clean and free of staining and excess print. This is a very attractive example of Doby’s most classic card, a key rarity for an advanced Hall of Famer rookie-card collection. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
