Graded NM 7 by PSA. This extremely desirable 1940 Play Ball rare high-number series card features the legendary Joe Jackson. Unfortunately for collectors, few vintage cards of Joe Jackson exist. This 1940 Play Ball card is one of the few. It is particularly fascinating that, although it was issued when the memory of the "Black Sox" scandal was still very fresh in the minds of baseball fans, the reverse of the card only makes great note of the fact that "Shoeless Joe" Jackson was one of the greatest hitters of all time while completely ignoring the scandal; in fact, it simply states that "he stopped playing after the 1920 season." This is a spectacular high-grade example of one of Joe Jackson's most classic cards. Four strong corners with just the slightest hint of wear, flawless picture quality, a perfectly clean reverse, and well centered with a slight tilt to the image. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+.
