Three of the four Babe Ruth poses (#53, 144, 181) from the classic 1933 R319 Goudey series, each graded and encapsulated by SGC. 1) Card #53 encapsulated as Authentic (Altered). The bottom of the card along the advertising appears to have been folded over at one time and then someone tried to repair it. The card has a crisp image, rounded corners, and a diagonal crease in the upper right. 2) Card #144 graded POOR 10. The obvious flaws include rounded corners, creasing, and ink marks on the reverse. The image of Ruth in a swing-pose is bright and crisp. 3) Card #181 graded POOR 10. Excellent centering, with vibrant colors, no creases, and perfect registry. Downgraded from Vg-Ex due to a large surface abrasion on the advertising bar along the bottom and a small area of paper loss on the upper right on the reverse. These are very presentable low-grade examples. For the Ruth collector not interested in paying a king's ransom for cards in higher grade but who still wants original 1930-era bubble-gum cards of Ruth, or the R319 Goudey set builder seeking to fill in these three big slots, this collection presents an excellent opportunity and represents an extraordinary value. Three attractive low-grade cards (one of each pose) of the "Bambino" from the most popular set of the era. Total: 3 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+.
