Graded VG 40 by SGC. N300 Mayo's Cut Plug of Hall of Famer Cap Anson. This is a particularly significant 19th-century card as Mayo is one of the very few sets featuring Cap Anson from his playing days. Though he was the premier player of his day, for some reason Anson is represented by only two poses in the N172 Old Judge series (and one of those, of course, is the incredibly rare "Anson in uniform" pose, of which there are only several known examples). This card displays a crisp image, with no creases and centering slightly toward the top right. Even corner rounding and a few print marks in the background are primarily responsible for the assigned grade. This is an outstanding example of one of Cap Anson's most desirable cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500++.
