Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Extremely attractive example of the ideal classic Babe Ruth bubble-gum card, featuring the Babe in his classic follow-through batting pose. Goudey must have also realized this was the most classic pose as, of all the cards in the set, this is the card it chose to double print when replacing the missing card #106 during production. This continues to be one of Ruth's most popular and recognizable baseball cards. Because of being double-printed by Goudey (there were exactly twice as many Ruth #144s printed as any other card in the same series), this card also represents the best value among the four Babe Ruth cards in the 1933 Goudey set. This is a very attractive example with brilliant colors and centering only slightly toward the bottom border. The corners show moderate, even wear. Crisp and clean, both front and back, with an extremely boldly printed reverse. This is a very impressive card with much stronger eye-appeal than suggested by the assigned grade. In our opinion, this card would not look out of place in a slightly higher graded holder! A worthy addition to any 1933 Goudey, Babe Ruth, or classic-card collection. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+.
