Complete 40-coin set of 1965 Old London Coins, highlighted by thirteen Hall of Famers, including Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, and Hank Aaron. Each metal coin, which measures 1-1/2 inches in diameter, is still sealed in its original cellophane wrapper as issued in boxes of Old London snack food (one coin per box). A complete set in unopened form is extremely rare! All coins appear to be NM-MT or better, having been perfectly preserved for the last fifty years. The 1965 Old London Coins set is one of the most overlooked of all baseball inserts. At the time the Old London set was issued, coins of various types were the rage: The Salada coin sets were issued in 1962 and 1963, and Topps issued metal coins in 1964. Old London jumped on the bandwagon with this set in 1965 and apparently it didn't go over too well. The fad was over, and the world did not see another baseball coin set until Topps came out with an insert coin set in 1971. Because cards naturally get most of the attention among baseball inserts, Old London coins are often overlooked, but are one of the most interesting and attractive baseball issues of the 1960s. Total: 40 coins. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
