Presented is a collection of nine different cards from the very rare regionally issued 1955 Old Homestead Franks minor-league cards set that featured twenty-one members of the Des Moines Bruins, the Class A Western League affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. The EXTREME rarity of these cards is no doubt related to their being issued with hot dogs, as well as their very limited and regional distribution. This collection of nine cards has been consigned directly by a gentleman in Iowa who has had the cards in his possession for decades-b -very likely since the year of issue! (This same gentleman also consigned a complete set to REA's Spring 2016 auction, where it appeared as lot #958 and realized $4,500.) Each card bears a black-and-white portrait of the player on front along with a facsimile signature and a solid black nameplate listing his name, position, and team. The reverse bears advertising for Old Homestead Franks. This collection consists of the following:
Anderson (Ex), Bellino (Vg-Ex), Cooke (Vg-Ex+), Flammini (Vg-Ex), Fodge (Vg-Ex), Hoffmeister (Vg-Ex), McDaniel (Ex-Mt), Pramesa (Vg), and Stoddard (Gd). While we have found all cards from this set to be rare, some advanced collectors of regional and food issues have noted that the card of pitcher Bob Anderson, which is included in this collection, is an extraordinary rarity within the set. This is an exceptionally attractive collection of cards from this rarely offered regional issue that will be a significant addition to even the most advanced collection. Total: 9 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
