Offered is an incredible complete set of 1958 Armour San Francisco Giants player tabs consisting of the ten different players known to exist plus a checklisted variation of Willie Mays. Also included are two duplicates. When the Giants moved to San Francisco, they were immortalized by this metal litho tab set issued by Armour Meats. Apparently one tab was inserted into each pack of Armour Meats in the San Francisco area. These tabs are designed as pins which attach to one's shirt by folding back the metal tabs. This issue is extremely rare. The set is listed in Hake & Steckler's 1986 pin book, but at that time only two different subjects were known. While the extent of the checklist is unknown, it appears that ten different players may be all that exist. (REA handled a find of more than fifty tabs several years ago, and only ten players were featured within.) Featured players include Antonelli, Barclay, Crone, Lockman, Mays (two different configurations), Mueller, O'Connell, Sauer, Spencer, and Thomson. The two duplicates are of O'Connell and Sauer. Tin litho tabs and pins are prone to tiny scratches and scuffs due to the nature of their manufacture. The tabs in this lot are in exceptionally high grade for a tin litho issue; and the folding metal sections on each have never even been folded. The lot is in overall Excellent or better condition and would be a superb addition to even the most advanced regional-card collection. Total: 13 tabs. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+.
