Presented is an outstanding complete set of twenty-four Dixie Lids Baseball Premiums. While Dixie is most often associated with the ice-cream lids featuring images of ballplayers and movie stars from the 1930s through the 1950s, the company also issued full-sized premiums in conjunction with several of the lids sets. This 1953 set features the same checklist as the ice cream lids set. This is an extremely attractive set, presenting far better than suggested by the grades assigned. Condition is eight Vg-Ex, seven Vg, and nine Fr to Gd. Minor flaws, such as small spots of paper loss or extra paper on the blank reverse, account for the downgrades. Keys: Ashburn (Fr), Fox (Vg), Irvin (Gd), Kiner (Vg), Lemon (Fr), Schoendienst (Gd), Slaughter (Vg-Ex+), and Spahn (Vg-Ex+). The premiums, which measure 8 x 10 inches, feature biographical information about the depicted player below the image. This is a very attractive complete set of this scarce premium issue. Total: 24 premiums. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
