Complete 72-card set of 1951 Berk Ross "Hit Parade of Champions." Condition is 23% Ex to Ex-Mt (including a couple higher), 56% Vg to Vg-Ex, and 21% lesser. The set features champions and stars of the day from a wide variety of sports. This is a presentable complete set of one of the few vintage multisport card sets from the era, and is in remarkable condition for this issue. Highlights include many of the greatest names in the history of sport. Keys: #1-3 Phil Rizzuto (Vg), 1-11 Bob Cousy (Vg-Ex), 1-16 Ben Hogan (Ex), 2-1 Stan Musial (Vg), 2-4 Yogi Berra (pen mark on back, otherwise Vg-Ex), 2-5 Joe DiMaggio (Vg+), 2-13 Sugar Ray Robinson (Vg-Ex), 3-18 Jesse Owens (Vg), and 4-5 Whitey Ford (Vg). Also included are two panels: #3-10/3-12 Heintzelman/LaMotta (Nr/Mt) and 4-17/4-18 Rice/Dillard (Vg+). The set was issued in perforated two-card panels, which were designed to be separated along the perforations. This is a very consistent complete set of this substantial early 1950s issue. The 1951 Berk Ross set is among the most interesting and overlooked sets of the era, and in our opinion represents an extraordinary value. Total: 72 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+.
