Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Extremely desirable rookie card of legendary Hall of Famer Willie Mays, one of the most important and famous of all 1950s bubble-gum cards. In addition to being one of the two key cards of the 1951 Bowman set, Mays is part of the scarce high-number series of the set (#253-324). The card displays bright colors, flawless registration, even wear to the corners, and is centered to the top left. There are very faint creases in all four corners. The reverse is particularly clean, with just two wax stains, which are often a problem with 1951 Bowmans. The 1951 Bowman Willie Mays rookie has always been a card-collecting icon, especially among postwar cards. This is an attractive example of this classic in an extremely desirable grade, offering an outstanding value compared to many higher-graded examples. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
