Extremely attractive complete set of the 1941 Play Ball series issued by Gum, Inc., one of card collecting's all-time classic gum issues. This full-color 72-card set includes many Hall of Famers and stars, including Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams. Condition is 42% Ex (including some Ex-Mt), 32% Vg-Ex, 19% Vg, and 7% lesser. We have submitted six cards to be graded by PSA. Keys: #1 Miller (Gd+), 6 Hubbell (Ex), 8 Ott (Vg-Ex), 10 Vaughan (Ex), 13 Foxx (Vg), 14 Williams (VG-EX 4), 15 Cronin (Vg-Ex), 18 Greenberg (Vg-Ex), 19 Gehringer (Ex), 20 Ruffing (Vg-Ex+), 39 Henrich (Vg-Ex), 54 Reese RC (EX 5), 60 Klein (Ex), 61 V. DiMaggio (Vg-Ex), 63 D. DiMaggio (EX-MT 6), 64 Doerr (Vg-Ex), 70 Dickey (VG-EX 4), 71 J. DiMaggio (EX 5), and 72 Gomez (EX 5). One of the great things about card collecting is that the classic card sets can be collected in any condition, on any budget. Spanning several grades, this is a very attractive set throughout with many condition highlights (including a very pleasing PSA EX 5 example of Joe DiMaggio). A beautiful set such as this, that spans several grades, often represents a particularly outstanding collecting value. This is a very attractive set that we think any collector would find extremely appealing, while at the same time being a far more affordable alternative to a higher-grade set of this very popular prewar gum issue. The SMR value for just the six graded cards is $3,385. Total: 72 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+.
