Second Series 1889 Allen & Ginter premium album features all fifty cards from the N29 Allen & Ginter set including eight boxers and, most important, all six baseball players (Ewing, Fogarty, Getzien, Miller, Morrill, and Ryan). The tobacco companies spared no expense in producing gorgeous full-color lithographic premium albums like this one, which were available by mail in exchange for coupons that were packed with tobacco products (in this case Allen & Ginter). This twelve-page album (not including covers) is no longer held together by the string binding, as nearly all of the string holes have been torn. The front cover is missing, but each interior page has been carefully preserved and maintains all of its original, brilliant colors. Four of the pages displays corner chips, while another displays moderate staining that affects two of the boxer cards (Murphy and Kerrigan). A few pages also display very minor staining and/or light corner creases. The back cover displays heavy staining and corner chips. Relatively affordable example of this early classic, with interior pages still ideal for display. Total: 12 pages plus back cover. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
