Collection of twenty-nine different cards from the classic 1927 Exhibits series. This collection, which represents 45% of a complete set, is highlighted by ten Hall of Famers, including Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, and Rogers Hornsby. The 1927 Exhibits (3-3/8 x 5-3/8 inches) have a green tint and are blank-backed. Condition of the offered cards is three Ex, seventeen Vg to Vg-Ex, and nine lesser (averaging Fr). Keys: Bottomley (Vg+), Cobb (Gd), Cuyler (Ex), Goslin (Vg-Ex), Heilmann (Vg-Ex+), Hornsby (Vg+), Johnson (pen mark on back, otherwise Gd), Sisler (pen mark on back, otherwise Vg), Traynor (erased writing on back, otherwise Vg-Ex), and Wheat (pen mark on back, otherwise Vg). Several of the lesser-graded cards have been downgraded for writing (pencil or ink) on the back. Even the lower-graded cards have tremendous visual appeal, in most cases far better than suggested by their technical grades. Exhibits are extremely substantial, far rarer than many other cards from the era, and represent an extraordinary collecting value for quality cards from the 1920s. Total: 29 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+.
