Graded EX/NM 80 by SGC. This is the ONLY example graded at this level with none higher! Presented is a very attractive high-grade E135 Collins-McCarthy card of St. Louis Browns Hall of Famer George Sisler. Issued in 1917 by the Collins-McCarthy Candy Co. of San Francisco, the 200-card black-and-white E135 set was the company's only venture into issuing cards of Major Leaguers. Unlike the somewhat similar 1916 M101-4/5 Sporting News set, these cards were larger and, since they were never issued as complete sets to the public, are naturally much rarer. The E135 set was produced on a slightly thinner stock that is far more susceptible to wear, and has a very glossy surface, which is very prone to creasing. This example is bright and clean, with outstanding contrast, light touches of wear to the corners, and centering slightly to the left. Perfectly clean, boldly printed reverse. This is a magnificent high-grade example of a significant and rarely offered George Sisler card dating from the late teens, a time during which very few card sets were issued. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
