Collection of four different cards from the C46 Imperial Tobacco set, each professionally graded and encapsulated NM 7 or NM+ 7.5 by PSA (submitted by REA). Issued in 1912 by the Imperial Tobacco Company, the 90-card C46 set is the only 1910-era tobacco baseball set issued in Canada. The players featured in this set are members of the eight teams of the Eastern League (Rochester, Toronto, Buffalo, Newark, Providence, Baltimore, Montreal, and Jersey City). This collection consists of the following: #5 Murray (NM 7, pop 2, one higher), 8 Nattress (NM 7, pop 2, two higher), 21 Handford (NM+ 7.5, pop 1, one higher), and 47 Mitchell (NM 7, pop 2, none higher). The unique and striking design of the set makes this extremely rare and beautiful issue of special note to collectors. The C46 cards feature a portrait of the player inside an oval surrounded by a wood-grain background. The flush-to-the-border design makes the edges and corners particularly susceptible to chipping and wear. This is a tremendous collection of four high-grade examples from one of the most elusive and condition-sensitive tobacco issues of the era, and would provide incredible upgrades to any existing C46 set. Total: 4 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
