Graded VG 40 by SGC. Exceptional example of Larry Doyle from the extremely rare cabinet-card set issued in 1911 by Jones, Keyser & Arras Studios of New York City. This is one of only two examples graded at this level with none higher! (A total of only thirty-four cabinets from this series, of all subjects, have been graded to date.) Little is known about exactly how this unusual and remarkably high quality set was issued. Each cabinet card (4.75 x 7.25 inches) in the set features a mounted sepia-toned photograph on the front and the studio's name and address in the lower left on the reverse. This is one of the rarest and most substantial of all prewar issues, and even finding a sample card from this set is very challenging. The offered example of Larry Doyle has survived in exceptional condition, with a flawless photograph, light, even wear at the corners, and no creasing or wrinkling to the mount (a tiny corner wrinkle in the lower right mentioned strictly for accuracy). The blank reverse shows light foxing and very minor chipping along the edges that are not at all visible from the front. This is a superb and extremely high-grade sample card rarity worthy of the finest collection. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++.
