Collection of seventy-eight B18 blankets (including sixty-three different), which have been sewn together into a blanket measuring 67 x 61 inches, highlighted by ten Hall of Famers and Joe Jackson. These 5.25-inch squares of "flannel baseball cards" were issued in 1914, with several popular brands of tobacco. They are referred to as "blankets" because they were intended to be sewn together to create bed covers, pillowcases, and other coverings, as is the case here. Often overlooked by collectors, B18s are beginning to be recognized both for their scarcity, and for the exceptional value they represent compared to many other 1910-era baseball tobacco issues. The B18s on the blanket are the following (color refers to pennants, infield, or basepaths, per The Standard Catalog checklist):
Agnew (purple), Ainsmith (brown), two Ainsmith (green), Baker (white), Bauman (white), G. Burns (green), T. Burns (white), Max Carey (purple, HOF), Frank Chance (brown, HOF), Coveleski (white), two Daubert (green), Demmitt (white), Doak (yellow), four Dolan (purple), Doyle (green), Gandil (brown), three Graney (purple), Grant (green), Hamilton (purple), Hartzell (green), Hummel (green), Hyatt (purple), Hyatt (red), Joe Jackson (purple), two Walter Johnson (green, HOF), three Joe Kelley (purple, HOF), Leibold (purple), three Mann (white), Rabbit Maranville (white, HOF), two McAllister (purple), McBride (green), Meyers (green), Milan (green), J. The blanket is in Excellent condition with some fraying at the seams visible and minor staining present on a few of the individual blankets. This is a beautifully sewn folk-art display piece utilizing B18s for their intended purpose, dating from the time of issue. Total: 78 blankets sewn together in blanket form. Reserve $500.
