Graded VG 40 by SGC. One of only four examples graded at this level with none higher! Incredibly rare sample card of Bert Tooley from the unusual and distinctive D380 Clement Brothers Bread series. This early bakery series was regionally issued only in the Rochester, New York, area circa 1910. The set is so rare that with few exceptions it is not on the radar of even the most advanced collectors. The cards were issued one per loaf of bread, and measure 1.5 x 2.75 inches. The reverse of each card features advertising for Clement Bros. bakery's bread and pies. Minor-league members of the Rochester (Eastern League) team, as well as a selection of Major Leaguers, comprise the set. The offered example displays a flawless image, even wear on the corners, and is centered slightly to the right. Boldly printed reverse, with a few light surface wrinkles across the center. This is a very scarce and desirable sample card from one of prewar-card collecting's rarest and most obscure bakery issues. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
