Graded GOOD+ 35 by SGC. Very attractive example of #872 Honus Wagner from the 1913-1915 "Pinkerton" Postcard series. This series is closely related to the T5 Pinkerton Cabinet issue, and features the very same images and caption designs (in 3.5 x 5.5-inch postcard size), as appear on the T5 cabinets, though the actual issuer of the set is unknown. Multiple styles are known to exist for these postcards, including scorecard-back examples, which allowed the holder to fill in a lineup and score a game on the reverse of a player postcard. The offered example is a blank-back variety. Featuring a sepia photo of the Hall of Fame shortstop in a batting pose, this card is crisp and clean, with no creases or wrinkles and just a little light wear to the four corners. Centered to the top border. The front of the card displays as Ex-Mt. The card has been significantly downgraded by SGC due to light red outlines (likely related to storage issues) on the blank reverse. An ideal sample featuring key Hall of Famer Honus Wagner from this rare 1910-era issue. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
