Graded EX 60 by SGC. This is the ONLY example graded at this level with none higher! Presented is an incredible T5 Pinkerton cabinet of legendary Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Famer Honus Wagner. This is a magnificent example of one of the most impressive of all Wagner cards. This card of Honus Wagner also has a special significance to the legend of the T206 Honus Wagner card, as it is a tobacco-card issue (and, in fact, is even rarer than the more famous and valuable T206 Wagner). To date, SGC has only encapsulated four examples of #853 Wagner (in any grade)! T5 Pinkerton cabinets are among the rarest of all 1910-era tobacco issues. These cabinet cards were available only by mail in exchange for coupons packaged with cigarettes produced by the Pinkerton Tobacco Co. Each T5 premium card is designed with a real photo (3-3/8 x 5-1/2 inches) affixed to a thick cardboard cabinet-style mount (4-3/4 x 7-3/4 inches). Two poses of Wagner were issued in T5: batting and fielding (both are offered in this auction). This outstanding example of Honus Wagner, in a fielding pose, is bright, fresh, and clean, with a stunningly crisp photograph. The mount has just a hint of light corner wear. The reverse is perfectly clean. T5 Pinkertons are found with two different mount styles: a thick cabinet-card mount with a surrounding embossed decorative imprint and a thin paper mount. The offered example is on the more desirable, higher-quality thick mount. This is an exceptionally attractive example of one of the best of all Honus Wagner cards, and would be a significant addition to any serious Hall of Fame or prewar-card collection. Reserve $5,000.
