Graded GOOD+ 35 by SGC (submitted by REA). This is the ONLY example ever graded of Donlin by SGC (only one other example is graded PSA FR 1.5). The 1915 T214 Victory set is an obscure series of tobacco cards, issued exclusively in the Louisiana area, which is sometimes mistaken for the T206 White Border set. Victory Tobacco is one of the few sets which feature players from the Federal League, in addition to featuring players from the National and American leagues. Offered is a rare sample card of "Turkey" Mike Donlin. Though not a Hall of Famer, "Turkey Mike" Donlin was one of best-known and most legendary players of the dead-ball era. It is interesting to note that on this card Donlin is identified next to his name as a ".300 batter 7 years." This is an outstanding and particularly attractive example in all respects. Victory Tobacco cards have a glossy coated surface which is very susceptible to creasing, and which makes high-grade examples such as this particularly rare. This is a very attractive example, with only a couple very faint creases on the upper corners. The front is bright and clean with vibrant colors, flawless registration, and near-perfect centering. The reverse is also very clean, which is ideal for a sample of this rare issue. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
