Complete set of all five Hal Chase poses from the classic T206 White Border series, each graded and encapsulated VG/EX 50 by SGC (except for one EX 60 as noted). Chase was, in fact, a major star of the day, but his involvement with gambling and with unsavory characters undermined his legend, and ensured that he would forever remain a "non-Hall of Famer." He had been accused of throwing games numerous times; it is universally agreed (both then and now) that these accusations were well founded. He "retired" following the 1919 season after being implicated in the Black Sox scandal. Still, his charisma and his Hall of Fame caliber (when he wasn't throwing games) won him many fans, and makes him one of the most interesting players of his era. This collection consists of the following: Holding trophy; Portrait, blue background; Portrait, pink background; Throwing, dark cap; and Throwing, white cap (EX 60). All cards are bright, crisp, and clean. This is a very attractive collection of classic Hal Chase tobacco cards, representing all five Chase cards in the T206 set. The equivalent SMR value for the five cards is $850. Total 5 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
