1887 N173 Old Judge cabinet card featuring Dick Johnston (#248-5 pose) of the Boston Beaneaters posed in front of a simple studio backdrop. This is an magnificent N173 example that presents Vg-Ex from the front but has been deemed Authentic by SGC due to traces of ink on the front used to fill in a few spots of paper loss and to a tiny spot of clear glue over the "Copyright 1887 Goodwin & Company" identification; these flaws are very subtle and do not detract from the tremendous eye-appeal of the card. All N173s should look this great! The image on this card is bold, with strong contrast and detail. There are a few very light moisture stains along the base of the cabinet and evidence of scrapbook removal on the otherwise clean reverse. This is an outstanding sample from one of the most revered and substantial of all nineteenth-century baseball-card issues. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
