Presented is a fascinating example of Rube Manning (pitching variation) featuring a Sweet Caporal 350/460 Factory 30 advertising reverse from the legendary T206 White Border series. While at first glance this card may appear to be nothing more than a common player with a common reverse, it is actually particularly notable as Manning/pitching is listed as a probable "no print" according to T206Resource.com. The operating theory is that this card was printed on a sheet bearing a Factory 30 tagline that was ultimately destined to receive a Factory 42 overprint. It is likely that the sheet was discarded prior to receiving this final layer of printing and was ultimately hand-cut, producing individual cards, such as this, that were not meant to have been produced. These cards never made it into Sweet Caporal packs and all will bear hand-cut edges, which is responsible for PSA Authentic designation on the offered card. Bright, crisp, and clean, the card presents as Excellent overall with an extremely neat cut on all four sides. Some collectors consider these cards to fall into the category of "scraps," but whatever the classification, this card will certainly be of great interest to master-set collectors and scholars of the T206 set, the most popular and widely-collected prewar-card set ever produced. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
