Presented is an extremely rare example of Rube Manning/pitching (New York Highlanders) from the T206 White Border series featuring a Drum advertising reverse. According to T206Resource.com, Drum backs are the fifth most-difficult-to-find advertising reverse within the T206 set (out of thirty-nine). This is one of only two examples of Manning/pitching with a Drum back ever graded by PSA and SGC combined! (PSA graded the other VG 3.) The offered card is encapsulated as Authentic by SGC due to a slight trim along the top border. Interestingly, this card was offered at public auction in 2007 with approximately two dozen other Drum-back examples, all of which were similarly cut along the top, suggesting it was done by a well-intentioned collector (perhaps to fit in holders) long before the advent of professional grading. Crisp image, even wear at the corners, and a small surface chip on Manning's jersey. The reverse boasts an incredible purple Drum Cigarettes advertisement (among the most vibrant we've ever seen) and a few small areas of surface wear near the bottom. Despite the few minor condition flaws, this remains an extremely attractive and exceptionally rare T206 example featuring a Drum advertising back. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
