Presented is an extremely substantial collection of 166 different cards from the classic T206 White Border set, highlighted by twenty-seven Hall of Famers, fifteen Southern Leaguers, and stars such as Eddie Cicotte and Hal Chase. This incredible collection represents just over thirty percent of a complete set. All cards in the offered collection are bright, crisp, and clean, but close examination reveals that each card appears to have been slightly trimmed. The trimming is very subtle, and on many cards, it is impossible to detect without a trained eye. Without respect to this issue, almost all cards present as Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt overall (averaging Ex). The majority of cards have Piedmont or Sweet Caporal advertising backs except for twenty-seven El Principe De Gales, seventeen Sovereign, seven Old Mill, and three Polar Bear. We have submitted eight cards to PSA to be encapsulated as "Authentic." This collection is highlighted by the following: Hall of Famers (26 cards): Bender/pitching, no trees in background, Bender/portrait (El Principe De Gales), Beckley, Bresnahan/with bat, M. Brown/Chicago on shirt, Cobb/bat on shoulder (Authentic), Cobb/bat off shoulder (Authentic), J. Collins, Huggins/portrait, Joss/pitching (Polar Bear), Joss/portrait, Kelley, Lajoie/portrait (Authentic), Lajoie/throwing (Authentic, El Principe De Gales), Lajoie/with bat (Authentic), Marquard/portrait, Mathewson/white cap (Authentic), McGraw/finger in air, McGraw/glove at hip (Sovereign 460), McGraw/portrait, no cap, McGraw/portrait, with cap, Speaker (Authentic), Waddell/throwing, Willis/throwing (El Principe De Gales), Willis/with bat (El Principe De Gales), and C. Young/glove shows (Authentic). Southern Leaguers (15 cards): Breitenstein – New Orleans (Old Mill), Bastian – San Antonio (Old Mill), Ellam – Nashville (Old Mill), Foster – Charleston, B. Hart – Little Rock, Helm – Columbus, Manion – Columbia (Old Mill), Persons – Montgomery, Reagan – New Orleans, Ryan – Roanoke, Seitz – Norfolk (Old Mill), Shaughnessy – Roanoke, Stark – San Antonio, Thebo – Waco (Old Mill), and Westlake – Danville (Old Mill). Other Keys (5 cards): Cicotte (Black Sox), Chase/portrait, pink background, Dahlen/Brooklyn, Elberfeld/portrait, Washington, and Gandil (Black Sox). While these cards will likely never be numerically graded by PSA or SGC, they do represent an extraordinary value for the collector who wants beautiful original examples of these classics, at a far more affordable level than graded examples with a similar appearance. This is an extremely attractive and sizable collection of cards, loaded with stars, Hall of Famers, and highlights, from the most popular prewar-card set ever produced. Total: 166 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
