This collection of eighty-five 1911 T201 Mecca Double Folders includes a partial set of thirty-seven different cards (out of 50 cards in the set) and is highlighted by Cobb, Johnson, Speaker, and many other Hall of Famers. These cards were part of a totally untouched collection of 1910-era tobacco cards consigned to this auction (all cards from this collection appear in several lots of the auction) that was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. Condition of the collection is 29% Vg (including a few higher) and 71% lesser (averaging Fr). Keys: Three Baker/Collins (Vg, Pr-Fr, and Pr), four Bresnahan/Huggins (Gd+, Fr, and two Pr), three M. Brown/Hofman (Vg-Ex, Gd, and Pr), two Chance/Evers (Gd, and Authentic [in two pieces]), four Chase/Sweeney (Vg-Ex, Vg, and two Gd), three Cicotte/Thoney (Vg, Gd+, and Pr), F. Clarke/Byrne (Fr), two Cobb/Crawford (Vg-Ex and Pr), two Jennings/Summers (both Fr), four Johnson/Street (Vg, Gd+, and two Gd), two Lajoie/Falkenberg (both Gd), three McGinnity/McCarty (Vg and two Gd), four Speaker/Gardner (Gd+, Fr, and two Pr-Fr), and Wheat/Bergen (Vg+). These cards are naturally prone to wear and rarely found in extremely high grade. As is usually the case with T201s, many cards have been downgraded due to mostly very minor creases and corner wear natural to the issue, and many have a far superior appearance than suggested by their technically accurate grades. T201s are very attractive, substantial, and represent one of the best values of all 1910-era baseball tobacco issues. Total: 85 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+.
