Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. 1887 N172 Old Judge of Hall of Famer John Clarkson with the Chicago White Stockings in a hands at chest pose (pose #78-4). Clarkson was one of the greatest pitchers of the nineteenth century. In 1887, the year this card was issued, he led the league with 38 wins. This is a very sharp-looking card, perfectly clean front and back, with light wear on the corners, strong photo contrast, and featuring Clarkson posed in front of an elaborate studio backdrop. Downgraded from EX by SGC due to a few faint surface creases visible on the reverse. A very attractive example of one of the premier Hall of Famers of the Old Judge set. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
