Graded EX/MT+ 82 by SGC (submitted by REA). This is the ONLY example graded at this level by SGC with none higher! Presented is an extraordinary high-grade sample card of Topsy Hartsel from the extremely rare E104-1 Nadja Caramels series. E104-1 Nadja Caramels are among the rarest of all twentieth-century caramel issues. Produced to commemorate the Athletics’ 1910 Championship season, the eighteen-card set features exclusively Philadelphia Athletics. The cards measure 1-1/2 x 2-5/8 inches, which is the standard size for tobacco issues. They are nearly identical to D359 Rochester/Williams Baking, and another related set of legendary rarity, T208 Fireside Tobacco. The offered example is bright and clean, both front and back, with a deep blue back background, four sharp corners, and centering slightly to the top right. The blank reverse is entirely clean with a faint wet-sheet transfer visible. This card is the plain portrait variation (each player can also be found with an overprint of a white elephant and the notation “World’s Champions 1910” on front) with blank back (also issued with a Nadja ad). This is a superb example in uncharacteristically high grade of one of twentieth-century baseball-card collecting's most elusive sample cards Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
