Graded NM 84 by SGC. This is the ONLY example graded at this level with none higher! Stunning high-grade card of Ed Willett (Detroit Tigers; misspelled "Willetts" on the card) from the classic E95 Philadelphia Caramel series. The E95 set was almost certainly inspired by the great success that tobacco companies were having with their cards. This set is of even greater significance in that the E95 artwork was not reissued by other manufacturers, as was so widespread with other “E” card issues. The designs used in E95 are unique to the set. These cards have a very distinctive look to them and the artwork is definitely a cut above their rivals of the time. Due to the thin stock on which they are printed, E95 Philadelphia Caramel cards are rarely found in such high grade. This card is an incredible condition rarity as only twenty E95 Philadelphia Caramel cards (of any subject) have ever been graded NM or better by SGC out of 2,219 cards evaluated to date. Clean both front and back, with four sharp corners, brilliant colors, near-perfect centering, and flawless registration. The printing of the checklist on the back is bold and centered to the right. This exceptional example in unparalleled high grade from this desirable prewar issue would make a significant addition or upgrade to any world-class E95 set or sample-card collection.
