Graded EX-MT 6 (MK) by PSA. This is the ONLY example graded at this level by PSA, with just two graded higher! Extremely high grade E94 example of Philadelphia Phillies infielder Hans Lobert. Perfectly clean front and back, with four strong corners, a crisp image set against a gold background, and centered slightly to the right. The back has the checklist for the set. There is evidence of very faint pencil marks to the right of Lobert's head, which is responsible for the qualifier. While at a glance E94s may be easily confused with other caramel-card sets of the era (E93 and E98 specifically), they are an entirely different set, even though they use many of the same subjects and poses. Of the three previously mentioned sets, E94s are the most difficult. The E94 caramel-card set is usually associated with the George Close Co. of Cambridge, Massachusetts. Caramel cards, of course, are rarely found in high grade, making this an especially desirable sample card from this rare, early twentieth-century candy issue, worthy of the finest E94 set, “E” card, or prewar-card collection. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
