Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Highest-graded example by PSA! Extremely high grade N172 example of New York Giants pitcher Mike Mattimore (#297-7 pose) in a sliding pose with an 1887 copyright date. Few Old Judges have survived in this extraordinary like-new condition. Anyone who has ever sent N172 Old Judges to SGC or PSA knows what a miracle it is to have an N172 be returned with such a high grade. Of the 4,019 N172 Old Judges graded by PSA to date (and of course those submitted for grading tend to be only the very best of all Old Judges; most N172s that will not grade highly are just not sent in for grading), only seventy-four examples have ever graded PSA 8, and only six have graded PSA 9. (None have ever graded 10.) Not surprisingly, this card is a gem! The card is bright and crisp, perfectly clean both front and back (a few tiny marks on the reverse are mentioned strictly for accuracy), near-perfect centering, four square corners, and excellent contrast. This is a tremendous card, one of the few stunning ultra high-grade examples we have ever seen from the N172 Old Judge series. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++.
