Rare cut-signature of Basketball Hall of Famer Maurice Stokes. Encapsulated by SGC, with the signature certified as "Authentic." Stokes has scripted his name in pencil (grading "7") on what appears to be a cut portion of a basketball program. Stokes was one of the game's greatest players during his brief four-year NBA career (1955-1958) before suffering a serious head injury on the court that left him paralyzed for the remainder of his life (he died in 1970 at the age of thirty-six). He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame posthumously in 2004. The cut (approximately 3.5 x 1 inch) is in Excellent to Mint condition and has been mounted by means of clear tape (not touching the signature) onto an unlined 3-5-inch card. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
