Lord Elgin wristwatch presented to Billy Southworth in recognition of his participation in the 1949 midsummer classic as manager of the National League club. Southworth earned the right to manage the 1949 National League All-Star team by leading his Boston Braves to the pennant in 1948. The inscription on the reverse reads: "N.L. All-Stars /1949/Billy Southworth/Manager." Accompanied by a signed one-page letter of provenance from Southworth's daughter, who writes, in part, "This watch was one of my father's favorites." The watch is in working order and remains in Excellent to Mint condition. The brown-leather wristband displays moderate wear and appears to be a replacement band. Together with its original Elgin black presentation case (4.5 x 2.5 x 1 inches; Ex). Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
