Titled The Splendid Splinter, issued in 1991, numbered "255/270," and signed in pencil along the base by both Ted Williams (grading "10") and the artist LeRoy Neiman ("10"). Edition limited to 326 total impressions (270 numbered impressions, 50 artist's proofs, and 6 printer's proofs). This is the premier art print of Ted Williams, and one of the most desirable of all modern-era Ted Williams display pieces. It is also the only serigraph of Ted Williams ever produced by Neiman and one that is rarely seen at auction today. Signed examples, such as this are rarer still (it wasn't issued signed by Williams) and have always been especially prized by collectors. This is only the third signed example we have ever offered. The first appeared as Lot 569 in our April 2004 auction (realized $7,475), and the other appeared as Lot 1230 in our April 2005 sale (realized $8,120). The serigraph measures 28 x 20 inches (image size) and is in apparent Near Mint to Mint condition. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 45 x 37.5 inches. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. The substantial size/weight of this item requires that there will be a shipping charge for this lot (which will vary depending upon where it is being shipped). The shipping charge will be billed separately from the auction invoice. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+.
