Extraordinary collection of fourteen vintage store-model baseballs, representing nine different manufacturers, each either still housed in, or accompanied by, its original retail box. Two of the balls are signed by former players, including Hall of Famers. One of the highlights of this collection is a Goldsmith "Official League Ball No. 97" that in addition to its original box, is also accompanied by its exceedingly rare die-cut retail advertising tag (approximately 3 x 4.25 inches) that pictures both the ball and box. The reverse features information regarding the ball, including its "eighteen-inning guarantee," as well as a blank box for store owners to write in the price of the ball. Complete with its original hanging string. The ball is in Very Good condition overall, with a few small areas of discoloration, as well as the notation "Oaks '29'" written in blank ink on the sweet spot. The box is technically in Good condition because of a detached lid, a detached interior flap, and a missing interior flap. The cardboard advertising tag is in Very Good condition, with a number of moderate creases. The remaining items in this collection are as follows: 1) Goldsmith "Special League Ball" still housed in its sealed box. Box: Ex. (The ball is presumably Mt.) 2) Goldsmith "Atlantic" ball. Vg-Ex. Box: Fr. 3) Pennant "Amateur League" ball. Ex-Mt. Box: Vg-Ex, with a missing interior flap. 4) Brine "Official League" ball. The ball has been signed in blue ink (grading "8/9 on average) by Louis Tiant (sweet spot), Brooks Robinson, Orlando Cepeda, Mickey Lolich, Hoyt Wilhelm, and Monte Irvin. Nr-Mt. Box: Ex-Mt. 5) Ken-Wel "Official City League" ball. The ball has been signed in black fountain pen (averaging "7") by Charlie Gehringer (sweet spot), Bill Rogell, and Doug Young. Coated with a layer of protective shellac; otherwise Ex-Mt. Box: Gd, with a missing interior flap and tape repair. 6) Hutch "League Special" ball. Ex-Mt. Box; Vg-Ex. 7) Japanese Royal "Official Royal Match Ball" Ex. Box: Ex. 8) Harwood "Professional League Base Ball" housed in its sealed box. Box: Ex. (The ball is presumably Mt.) 9) Harwood "Official League " ball. Nr-Mt. Box: Ex-Mt. 10) Alex Taylor & Co.,"Taylor Official League" ball. There is a small area of discoloration on a side panel; otherwise Nr-Mt. Box: Fr, missing all of the top flaps. 11) Alex Taylor & Co.,"Taylor Official League" ball. Ex-Mt. Box: Gd-Vg, with two detached interior flaps. 12) Reach "Official League Jr." ball. Vg-Ex. Box: Vg-Ex. 13) Reach "Amateur League" ball. Vg-Ex. Box: Fr, with three missing interior flaps. Total: 14 balls, each accompanied by its original box.
