Original Acme news photo capturing the 1927 World Champion New York Yankees in a classic team pose. Accompanied by an LOA from PSA/DNA certifying it as a Type 1 original news photograph. Thirty members of the club are pictured here posing together in front of the grandstands at Yankee Stadium, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, manager Miller Huggins, Herb Pennock, Earle Combs, Wait Hoyt, Tony Lazzeri, Bob Meusel, Bob Shawkey, and Mark Koenig. The original paper news caption remains affixed to the reverse, which identifies the club as "The American League Baseball Champions," indicating that this photo was taken just prior to the World Series. Only the year, "1927," appears on the news caption, not the date of the photo. The 1927 New York Yankees, powered by Ruth, Gehrig, and the other members of baseball’s famed “Murderers' Row,” are still considered by many historians to be the greatest team ever assembled. Their World Series performance that year certainly affirmed that title, as the Yankees easily swept the Pirates in four straight games. The photo (9 x 6 inches) displays a few minor surface wrinkles (visible only when viewed at certain angles) and is otherwise Excellent to Mint in its overall appearance. Mounted and framed (so that both the photo and unfolded news caption can be viewed together) to total dimensions of 19 x 21 inches. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,500+.
