Silver-plated baseball trophy cup dating from the 1923 season. In addition to being a fine example of an early baseball trophy, what makes this trophy especially noteworthy is that it was presented to the winning team by none other than the legendary "Flying Dutchman" Honus Wagner. That information is provided by the engraving on the front of the cup that reads "Champions 1923/McDonald Church League/Presented By/Honus Wagner." The design features three crossed bats upon which the two-handled cup rests. A tiny baseball sits atop the circular base. Manufactured by renowned jewelers Dieges & Clust, as stamped on the bottom of the base (the number "210" is also stamped on the bottom). The trophy (11 inches high; base diameter of 3.75 inches) displays a few moderate dents along the base and minor tarnishing. In Excellent condition overall. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
