Rare metallic trophy bat presented to Albert Bromwich of the Davenport Blue Sox, a member of the Illinois-Indiana-Iowa League, in recognition of his team-high batting average in 1914. The gold-colored bat is ornately engraved along the barrel "Presented By M. E. Nabstedt & Sons Co./To Albert Bromwich/For His Best Batting Average 311/Davenport Base Ball Club/Three Eye League/Season 1914." A check of the records shows that Bromwich led Davenport in a number of other batting categories that season as well, including hits, at bats, doubles, and total bases. All early trophy bats such as this are rare, especially metallic examples. The fact that this came from a prominent professional league makes it all the more appealing. The bat (32.75 inches) displays heavy wear, including tarnishing, numerous abrasions to the gold-colored finish, and a small number of minor dents/dings. The handle also exhibits a slight bend. In Good condition overall. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
