Collection of four rare photos, each capturing Jim Thorpe during the New York Giants and Chicago White Sox 1913-1914 World Tour. Thorpe was a member of the Giants at the time and, like all of the players, was accompanied by his wife during the tour. All of the offered photos picture Thorpe in street clothes. The collection is comprised of the following: 1)
4.25 x 2.5-inch photo capturing Thorpe posing aboard ship with Buck Weaver and an unidentified gentleman (Vg-Ex, with minor corner creases). 2)
5.75 x 3.5-inch photo picturing Thorpe and his wife posing together with Hans Lobert and his wife. The couples are seen on either side of a large ox at an unspecified locale. The photo has been mounted onto an album page that has been trimmed to nearly the same dimensions of the photo. Vg-Ex. 3)
3.5 x 5.75-inch photo of Thorpe and another gentleman standing on a field. The vintage notation on the reverse identifies the gentleman as "Eddie McGourty." (Probably Eddie McGoorty, who was a professional boxer at the time). Vg-Ex, with a few light creases. 4)
5.75 x 3.5-inch photo capturing Thorpe and his wife seated in an automobile with an unidentified couple. The vintage notation on the reverse identifies the locale as "Manilla." Ex. Total: 4 photos. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
