This circa 1915 Hank Gowdy Louisville Slugger mini decal bat is unusual in that it features a customized center brand, as opposed to the standard H&B center brand. The center brand is stamped "Baltimore Amateur/Championship Series/Base Ball Federation." The barrel features the standard decal bearing Hank Gowdy's portrait image and endorsement of Louisville Slugger bats. Given the unique center brand, it appears that these bats were specially produced as presentation pieces to either the members of the winning team or all of the participants in the Baltimore Amateur Championship Series tournament. This is the first example of a custom-stamped decal bat we have ever seen, making it a unique dead-ball era souvenir. Boston Braves catcher Hank Gowdy holds the distinction of being the first major league player to enlist for military service in World War I. He enlisted for service (at the age of 53) in World War II as well. The decal is approximately 80% intact and the bat displays moderate wear. In Very Good condition overall. Reserve $200.
