The defining feature of this rare Spalding "Premier Model No. 152" bat is its unique handle, which features fifty-five individual grooves to enhance the batters grip. This is the first example we have ever offered, and we can only recall having seen one other at auction in the past fifteen years. We can only assume that the design was not a hit (no pun intended) with players, since so few have survived. The bat (34 inches) displays heavy use, including deadwood on the front and reverse of the barrel, as well as a number of medium-to-large indentations throughout. Despite the flaws, the bat still displays well and would make an attractive addition to any advanced store-model bat collection. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
