This extremely rare and attractive 1894 New York Giants program, issued for a game against the Boston Beaneaters, features a portrait photo of Giants pitcher Les German on the cover. The interior scorecard features the preprinted lineups for both teams, including Ward, Davis, Van Haltren, Doyle, Tiernan, and German for New York, and Duffy, Nichols, McCarthy (misspelled "McCarty"), Lowe, Long, and Tenny for Boston. Based upon the lineups listed here, this program conclusively dates to the 1894 season. Neatly scored in blue pencil to record a 13-13 tie. Research indicates that the only New York Giants home game against Boston ending in a 13-13 tie that year took place on August 2nd. The New York Giants won the World Championship in 1894 by sweeping the Baltimore Orioles in the first ever Temple Cup series that fall. The four-page program (6.5 x 9.5 inches) displays a center vertical fold and light toning. The four pages have separated from the spine. In Good condition overall, but still striking in appearance and ideal for display. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
