Extremely rare Hall of Fame sample-card from the beautiful Lincoln Publishing postcard set honoring the back-to-back American League Champion Philadelphia Athletics. Rube Waddell is pictured in a formal portrait pose, dressed in a suit, in the center of the postcard, with the heading "American League Champions" scripted at top and his name and "Athletic Base Ball Team" printed underneath. Waddell is one of four Hall of Famers in the twenty-card set; Chief Bender, Connie Mack, and Eddie Plank are the other three. Ideally, all four of these Hall of Famers are available individually in this auction. The offered card is crisp and clean presenting as Vg-Ex. It has been graded FAIR 20 by SGC due to a handwritten "Pitcher" notation in the nameplate underneath Waddell's portrait along with an address and postmark (September 18, 1906) on the reverse. Interestingly, each of the four Hall of Fame postcards offered in this auction were mailed to the same person and postmarked in a one-week span, meaning these postcards have impressively been reunited after 110 years. This is a very attractive Hall of Fame sample card from this fascinating and extremely scarce postcard set. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+.
